5 February 2005 - Online Lottery Pool Closed. |
As of now, our online lottery pool is closed to new members. Our last members' accounts have expired and no one is currently participating in our pool. I would like to thank those who had the vision that sharing in the risks greatly increased our chances to win the jackpot, and wish them good luck. Also, I would like to thank the countless many who I have communicated with, about this site, and thought it was a great idea, but didn't like the fact that this wasn't a get rich quick program. Thank you everyone and good luck in your lottery adventures! |
8 January 2005 - Planned closing of site. |
First let me thank those who saw the benefit in joining a fee-less online lottery pool. Together we had our best odds of winning the jackpot. Second, let me tell you why we are closing this site. Lack of growth. This site has been in operation over a year, gone through one re-design and code rewrite, and even with our high rankings within the Search Engines, we failed to live up to our potential. It was envisioned that we would grow to a size such that we could offer more to our members. Multiple pools with a choice of being a part of one large pool, or a smaller lottery pool. Even though we receive emails from interested people, after they realize we do not, and cannot, make nutty claims about becoming rich, they move on. Most likely to a fee based system. Third, how we are closing down the site. The number of members is small, one being myself, and all current members have come to the end of their membership period. We will not be accepting any new year-long membership payments, nor any renewals. After the last membership has expired, this pool shall be closed. Thank you and good luck to all those who dream of winning the jackpot. |
9 November 2004 - PayPal Processing Removed. |
It has come to our attention that PayPal does not want to be used, or associated, in any way with Lottery Pools. Previous to today, we had heard the rumors(via a news article) that PayPal was 'cracking down' on online gambling sites. Since we do not have operate an 'online gambling' site, we were slow to removing the option to pay by PayPal, but did fire off emails asking about the scope of the changes. It has been already established that lottery pools do not offer an element of chance, we use a pre-defined formula for distributing prize money, and the 'chance' portion is performed by the actual lottery service; therefore are not an lottery (gambling) system. After failing to receive proper replies to our inquiries, a proper keyword search on Google.com turned up the rules. As you can read, PayPal wants absolutely nothing to do with any services that might be associated with any games of chance. Today, we removed the link that allows for paying via PayPal, even though we feel our site is one of the few that are following PayPal's wishes. We are in good standing with PayPal, and understand, just as we have rules associated with our services, so do they. We will honor their decision, and not accept any payments for VirtualLotteryPool.com services. We are deeply sorry for this course of events, and offer good news that VirtualLotteryPool.com is still in operation, and we do have a pay via Mail option. In the mean time, the site will be updated to reflect PayPal's decision ASAP. Thank you for understanding. |
30 March 2004 - The New VirtualLotteryPool.com |
VirtualLotteryPool.com has undergone some changes. We had an increasing decline in our hosting provider's performance and reliability, so we decided to move VirtualLotteryPool.com We wish we could simply blame the hosting provider, but it appears that the Lotus Notes/Domino Application Platform was very unstable for our purposes. We are really sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, but rewriting the design, and relocating the site to another hosting service will provide us much needed flexibility and reliability. |
